The Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Introducing APOLLO consortium member - NTNU - The Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

NTNU is an international oriented university with headquarters in Trondheim and campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund. NTNU has a main profile in science and technology, a variety of programmes of professional study, and great academic breadth that also includes the humanities, social sciences, economics, medicine, health sciences, educational science, architecture, entrepreneurship, art disciplines and artistic activities.

The university's root goes back to 1760 with the foundation of Det Trondhiemske Selskab (Trondheim Academy). A merger in 2016 made NTNU Norway's largest single university.

As a world leader in solar-grade Si refining techniques, NTNU provides state-of-the-art facilities for the APOLLO project, allowing them to optimise and deliver refined Si for both small- and large-scale trials, which will then be used by project partners in ingot growth and PV panel production. NTNU also leads Work Package 4 (WP4), focusing on material refinement and assessment, with key deliverables including Si refining by chemical methods and glass batch recovery for PV panels.be focusing on refining silicon (Si) fragments from end-of-life photovoltaic (EoLPV) panels. Their work includes using advanced leaching, vacuum, and gas refining processes to remove impurities like phosphorus and boron from the silicon.
